"Jessie just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed visiting you your delightful and inspiring shop and not to mention the workshop we did on Saturday...I loved spending the day having this one on one session and you have helped me so much to start my wedding invites...All the design help was great as well as the practical skills you shared with me.

"I love Jessie's work. She's incredibly creative and I love her unique
style of stitching and her ability to turn odds and ends and bits and
bobs into something magical. I loved taking her embroidered storybook
class. I took a trip to Amsterdam and wanted something to remember it
by, and Jessie helped me come up with an idea for my storybook and
helped guide me to bring the idea to life, and now it's one of my
favorite things I've ever made that I'll cherish always. :Leigh Metcalf London 2010:
"I was drawn to joining one of Jessie's workshops by her outstandingly original work which I found mesmerising. I love her use of words and phrases within each piece and her ethics about reusing items from the past and giving them a modern twist. During the workshop I was surrounded by lots of inspiration and all I learnt has influenced and helped my work in a very positive way.

"Jessie gave me such an inspiring afternoon as she helped me to embroider my own story with stitched writting on to an old pillow case I am so pleased I have gained a new skill that I will now treasure and use withing my own work" Suzie London 2012
"The beauty of this workshop is that everyone leaves with something unique to themselves.I came home very happy with my hand made cookery and kitchen Journal made from an old times atlas from my local charity shop." Sally Riley London 2012
I so enjoyed the workshop on Saturday. It was brilliant! I feel so inspired and cant wait to join in again. Thank you for sharing." Susie Daniel London 2012
"Jessie visited our home in Columbia road to run a workshop for my older daughter's 7th birthday party. My daughter, five friends and her 3-year old sister gathered around our kitchen table to make scrap books upcycled from vintage hardcovers. Jessie catered for the group's varying interests and abilities, tailoring the session for everyone from the football-mad boy to the less focused little sister. Everyone came away feeling happy and accomplished, with something nice to take home. For the parents, it was the antidote to the usual sugar and insanity filled parties - so calm was the afternoon that Jessie sent us all upstairs to enjoy a nice cup of tea." Claire Landon London 2012
" I loved my party!
The bookmaking was sooper because I got to do craft with my friends from sophia xxx"

"I just spend a day with Jessie in her studio/shop creating altered Journals from my dads old cook books....a delight and such an inspiration..I will never watch sat night tv again as from now on my head and hands are kept busy making such delightful treats...Thank you Jessie for your time and giving away so many secrets" Jodie pelma London Nov 2013
From one of my workshops You will gain an in depth knowledge and insight in to how I work as a designer and maker
You will learn how I use my three main techniques of Hand embroidery, appliqué and collage together to create my own work
I teach in the way that I show all participants in a group as well as individually so no one gets missed out.
I like to encourage sharing on the day. Sharing something you have
personally found this may be fabrics or an old bundle of letters or
buttons etc...This is always really inspiring to all on the day
the heart of My work is found recycled and pre-loved items of interest.
Plus as you will know I love to collect so this way of working is
always a strong part of all my workshops
You will learn how to give life back to a discarded object of your own, this may be a hard back book, a favorite cardigan, jacket or dress or a pair of curtains belonging to your great Aunt!
My Approach to teaching:
Structured but relaxed
I like people to forget what they have learn in the past and to be open
to the way I work and to be open to learning new techniques and
approached to traditional and well known methods
You do not need any prior knowledge of hand embroidery, collage or applique all abilities are welcome to my workshops
workshops start with an inspiration talk about my work and you will
have the chance to hold and pass around items of my work before you
start the workshop and also during the workshop
I like to make each workshop as
personal as I can to each
individual attending therefore with all my
workshops a requirements
list will be sent out to all who are attending
This list is simple but creates
a back bone for the workshop and a structure and helps you as the individual create something unique to you on the day
This requirements list also helps focus and is inspirational and encourages a starting point on the day
"I came to one one of Jessie's
Book workshops in the Summer of
2012 with my daughter who had
assured me that I did not need any
previous embroidery experience
(I was a little worried as last time
I picked up a needled to mend a
sock it was in the 1970s) Jessie;s
kind and encouraging and very inspiring
way of teaching and creating her own
work has meant I am now never bored as of
one long winter evening.
I always have a little
sewing,cutting or collage project
on the go especially around birthdays and
Christmas time " Rosemary Birch Maidstone"
